Coronavirus Notice – Letter from the temple president

March 17, 2020

Dear Beth Mordecai Community,

In an effort to decrease COVID-19 transmission rates and help protect the health of the congregation and the Middlesex County community, all in-person group activities (e.g. Shabbat services, social programs, educational programs) will be cancelled, effective immediately, through April 30, 2020. This includes the 2nd Night Passover Seder.

We are hoping to provide you with a way to connect virtually in the near future and provide you with that information soon.

We approved this unprecedented action after a lengthy and difficult discussion. We took into consideration recommendations by numerous government and Jewish organizations, and the precept of Pikuach Nefesh, the protection of human life and health, above other mitzvot. The Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and the Rabbi will continue to monitor the situation to determine if cancellation of events after April 30 are in order.

You may still contact the office during this time via email or phone. Should you need Pastoral care, please reach out to Robbi Metz.

If your Shabbat observance includes technology use, here are some live-stream options:

Midway Jewish Center, Syosset, NY
Friday Night: 6:00 PM, Saturday Morning: 9:00 AM

Park Avenue Synagogue, NY, NY
Friday Night: 6:15 PM, Saturday Morning: 9:45 AM

Sutton Place Synagogue, NY, NY
Friday Night: 6:15 PM, Saturday Morning: 9:15 AM

Temple Emunah, Lexington, MA
Saturday Morning: 9:30 AM

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Good health to all.

Sharon Bender
President
