DAY 411: This is what community is all about…

Dear Hevreh,

This is what community is all about…

After a wildly successful Shabbat by the Sea this past Friday night, we still managed to make a minyan the next day on Saturday, something that would have been very unlikely not so long ago.

This is what community is all about…

Last night 16 people got together at the schul for a weekday evening service so a member could say Kaddish on the day of her father’s actual yahrtzeit. Through phone calls made by Sherry Weber and the Caring Committee, and through our other outreach efforts especially through Facebook, we showed how our community can come together at a moment’s notice.

This is what community is all about…

Earlier in the day a handful of volunteers gathered at Panera to make phone calls to local businesses to find sponsors for our Rubber Duck Race fundraiser. Out of these calls came 8 emails, faxes, or dropoffs of the sponsorship packet and 3 follow up in person or phone meetings, one of which is scheduled for our Canvassing the ‘Hood walk around of Perth Amboy on Wednesday August 21st from 1-4 pm. If you are interested in helping on this project, please email Alan Roy at alanroy33@gmail.com.

This is what community is all about, and we should be very proud of what we’re building.

Kol Tuv,

Rabbi Ari Saks
