DAY 649: Innovation for the Extra Days of Passover

Dear Hevreh,

As I’ve often mentioned, we must continually seek to refresh our rituals with creativeinnovation so that they remain relevant for the current generation of Jews. One of the ways in which we’ve incorporated some of that innovation is in re-imagining the ways to observe and uphold the values of the second days of the holidays. For instance…

With the approach of another holiday (Passover) with two sets of “extra” second days (the 2nd day and the 8th day), we have another opportunity to explore the creative and innovative ways of connecting with our ancient tradition. Therefore…

  • “Come OMER to My House!”
    • On Wednesday April 16th (2nd day of Passover)we will again drive to people’s homes to help them fulfill a mitzvah associated with the holiday. This time, the mitzvah is counting the omer which begins on the 2nd day of Passover. If you are interested in having us come to your home or if you’d like to drive together to help other members of our community fulfill the mitzvah, please email me (ari.saks@gmail.com) or RSVP on our Facebook event page by Monday April 14th at 12 noon.
  • Online Yizkor
    • Last year we had a wildly successful Online Yizkor event in which people shared the names of their loved ones on our Facebook page. This year we will have another opportunity for members of the extended Beth Mordecai community to participate together in this important ritual as we will recite their names during a LIVE online broadcast on the 8th day of Passover,Tuesday April 22nd at 12 noon. Please click here to add the name of your loved one for the Online Yizkor event, and also make sure to join us for our in-person Yizkor service the previous day (7th day of Passover), Monday April 21st at 10 am.

Through these methods we hope to inspire a greater connection to the extra days of the holidays and make our celebrations and rituals more meaningful and relevant to our community.

Hag Kasher V’Sameah (A happy and kosher holiday),
