DAY 689: Weekends at Beth Mordecai

Dear Hevreh,

One of the signs of a growing and thriving community is the ability to run multiple (successful) events on the same weekend. Nowhere was this on display better than during the Homecoming Weekend when we had wonderful Friday night and Saturday morning services, a memorable Saturday evening cruise, and a fascinating Sunday brunch (with prior Megillah reading). All of these events were well attended, helped develop bonds among members (and alumni), and showed that we have the requisite size and energy to spend entire weekends together.

But, you might say, that was a special weekend with many months of planning. Can that happen the rest of the year?

If this past weekend was any indication, yes it can. Whether it was an early Friday evening service, a picnic lunch in the park on Saturday morning, or a fascinating trip to Philly (thanks to Sherry Weber and Louise Siegel for organizing!), members of our community came together to bond, learn, and experience the joys of being in a close knit Jewish community. Some people came to only one event, showing that we are sizable enough to handle multiple events, and some came to more than one, showing that we have the desire to spend extended periods of time together.

Part of the growth of our community will depend upon our ability to continue fostering multiple opportunities for us to spend quality time together, learning about each other and our unique connections as members of our Jewish Home for the Soul. With that in mind…won’t you consider joining us for our special weekend of unique Torah Friday-Saturday May 30th-31st featuring a Cantor Showcase and a Scholar-in-Residence?When you come, you’ll see just how special weekends at Beth Mordecai can truly be.

Kol Tuv,

Rabbi Ari Saks
