Unique and Traditional 2nd Day Rosh Hashanah Service

Join us for a unique High Holiday experience as we go through core parts of our traditional liturgy exploring themes of unity, gratitude, humility, and love. There will be ample opportunity for prayer, conversation, and singing.

At the core of our conversation and exploration will be reflection on the latest controversy surrounding the building of an egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall. In particular we will look at an article by former Minister of Knesset and outgoing leader of the Jewish Agency, Natan Sharansky.

You may want to consider asking some questions at your Rosh Hashanah table based off of this article. These questions could include:

  1. What are the benefits of having an egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall? What are the drawbacks?

  2. Why is this an issue that I should care about? And if I don’t care about it, why not?

  3. Is compromise possible?

  4. Is K’lal Yisrael (Jewish unity) possible? Or is it a dream that will never be realized?

  5. What are your reactions to Mr. Sharansky’s final two statements:

“Therefore, to abandon the Kotel agreement now is to legitimate extremism, to alienate large groups of fellow Jews, and to allow discord to further poison our public life. With Israel facing unprecedented attacks on the world stage and with anti-Zionist sentiment routinely used as a pretext for anti-Semitism, we are weakening ourselves at an especially vulnerable moment, playing directly into the hands of those on the outside who would truly do us harm.

Anyone who cares about the future of the Jewish people should care about this issue. We must not simply throw up our hands but rather take action now, before it is too late.”
