Counting the Omer — Day 45: Harmony (תפארת) within Indwelling Presence (מלכות/שכינה)

Day 45 -- תפארת שבמלכות/שכינה (Harmony within Indwelling Presence) The harmony and balance of God’s creation surrounds us, manifest in every leaf, every frog, every tear, every sigh, if only we pay attention. Rabbi David Cooper, in his book Entering the Sacred Mountain, describes such an experience: “I began to see the creation anew, as if my entire visual field had melted and softened into a magnificent Renoir, and all my senses were bathed in the warm waters of divine harmony.” Look around with all your subtle senses and recognize the harmonies of Creation happening now, still (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidep. 219).

Counting the Omer — Day 38: Harmony (תפארת) within Foundation (יסוד)

Day 38 -- תפארת שביסוד (Harmony within Foundation) The s’firot of Tiferet (Harmony) and Y’sod (Foundation) are located along the vertical path in the lower center of our bodies; this keeps us centered, erect, and balanced. It reflects a basis for actions within us, keeping us upright, prepared for appropriate response.  By connecting the heart and the center of sexuality, this pairing also suggests that our sexual actions and feelings must be ethical and harmonious. Tiferet sheb’Y’sod reminds us to conduct the sexual aspects of our lives with integrity and impeccability (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidep. 188).

Counting the Omer — Day 24: Harmony (תפארת) within Endurance (נצח)

Day 24 -- תפארת שבנצח: Harmony within Endurance “Tiferet is the gathering place for the desires of our hearts. When simple longing becomes fervent yearning, we find fresh fortitude to pursue our goal…The halutzim, the early settlers of modern Israel, had similar perseverance. Finding malarial swamps and unoccupied rocky hills oat the site of their future homes, they pursued their dreams moving boulders one at at imd, draining marshes and reclaiming land. Their longing gave them forces and vigor, Tiferet she b’Netzah” (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidepp.132-133).

Counting the Omer — Day 21: Indwelling Presence (שכינה) within Harmony (תפארת)

Day 21 מלכות/שכינה שבתפארת - Indwelling Presence within Harmony The path between these two s’firot in our body is along the centerline, from Malkhut/Sh’khinah, a place where we connect to the earth (base of the spine or feet) through Y’sod (genitals, foundation, the location of th energy of regeneration), to Tiferet (heart, harmony, balance). When we keep these places in our body in alignment with each other, we stand or sit up straight. This posture is recommended in many meditation traditions, as it allows energy to flow smoothly up and down. One of the traditional morning blessings expresses gratitude to God who “straightens the bent,” who keeps these s’firot lined with each other (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation[...]

Counting the Omer — Day 19: Splendor (הוד) within Harmony (תפארת)

Day 19 הוד שבתפארת - Splendor within Harmony “As we open ourselves to recognizing visible patterns, we become more aware of many invisible ones. Creation’s splendor is expressed in earth, air, fire, water, animal, vegetable, atom, rock and human, in an astounding variety of ways of emotions and ideas. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel described an experience of God as “radical amazement” (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidep.112).

Day 17 — Harmony (תפארת) within Harmony (תפארת)

Day 17 תפארת שבתפארת - Harmony within Harmony Prayer is an intimate act, flowing between our hearts and God’s love. Tiferet sheb’Tiferet is the pairing of intimate reciprocity. Today we try to align ourselves in perfect balance, imagining ourselves as a gyroscope, all our actions helping to keep us upright and stable. We are kept alive as a result of a complex interplay of atoms and energy, matter and spirit. Tiferet sheb’Tiferet is an extraordinary opportunity to focus on the harmony of this delicate, fragile and astonishing balance (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidep.107).

Counting the Omer — Day 16: Discernment/Strength (גבורה) within Harmony (תפארת)

Day 16 גבורה שבתפארת - Discernment/Strength within Harmony G’vurah sheb’Tiferet pairs the clarity of careful discernment with harmony and beauty. It reminds us that structure and discipline are essential ingredients in harmony. The word for Jewish law, halakhah, is related to the word holekh, which means “to walk.” Jewish legal principles guide us in the proper way to walk through the world. When the essence of the law is interpreted well and honored by the community, people live in greater harmony (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guidep.101).

Counting the Omer — Day 15: Lovingkindness (חסד) within Harmony (תפארת)

"We know that each individual is part of a large, harmonious system that has been unfolding for millions of years. We honor our ancestors’ struggles to harmonize contradictions, to find calm in paradox, and we are grateful to them for capturing some of that struggle in writing. The Talmud, for example is full of legal discussions, chronicling attempts to resolve opposing opinions about the proper interpretation of Jewish law. It also contains hundreds of stories and anecdotes, examples of the attempts of our ancestors to choose honorable ways to live their lives. Study of sacred texts and wisdom literature is at the heart of the Jewish spiritual path" (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guide, p.100) For other days of the Omer,[...]

Counting of the Omer — Day 10: Harmony (תפארת) sheb’G’vurah (Discernment/Strength)

"Judgment out of balance can lead to severity, cruitely, critical gossip, enmity or violence. Without harmonizing influences, judgment is the source of prejudice and intolerance. Adding heart and balance to the strength of discernment helps us to remember that appropriate choices are necessary if we are to live with others harmoniously, acting with righteous intent toward others and ourselves" (Counting the Omer: A Kabbalistic Meditation Guide, p.78). For other days of the Omer, please click here
