Beginners Hebrew Class: Intro to Hebrew and the Prayer Book.
This class will meet the first and third Wednesday of each month, 7:00-8:30 p.m, beginning January 17, 2018.
The goal is to make synagogue services more meaningful, so in addition to learning Hebrew, we will study individual prayers and practice using the translation and transliteration in the prayer book. (more…)

כג וְכִי-תָבֹאוּ אֶל-הָאָרֶץ, וּנְטַעְתֶּם כָּל-עֵץ מַאֲכָל--וַעֲרַלְתֶּם עָרְלָתוֹ, אֶת-פִּרְיוֹ; שָׁלֹשׁ שָׁנִים, יִהְיֶה לָכֶם עֲרֵלִים--לֹא יֵאָכֵל.
23 And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as forbidden; three years shall it be as forbidden unto you; it shall not be eaten.

Thank you to Harriet for leading services this morning! Before researching for this morning’s Dvar, I read both the Torah portions and the Haftorah. Parashas P'Keudei is not the most exciting of material P'Keudei begins with Moses's expense account, "These are the records of the Tabernacle … While only the most obsessive CPAs are likely to want to audit Moses at this late date, it does provide a model for what we now call transparency. There should never be an issue that those who have the ability to tax us (or demand "donations") are personally profiting thereby.
